General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader has asked party leaders to reach out to the ordinary people who do not resist their misdeeds out of fear.
“We don't need the spring cuckoos. No one should do misdeeds in the name of the party,” he told the Cox's Bazar district unit council of the ruling party yesterday, joining virtually as the chief guest.
Quader said: “Bangabandhu is our Mahathir, our greatest hero. The assassins sprayed bullets on his body on August 15, 1975. The nation hasn't forgotten that scandal.”
Terming BNP founder General Ziaur Rahman the mastermind of the August 15 massacre, Quader said that Zia had revealed his face by amending the Constitution to stop the prosecution of the killers.
“Had Bangabandhu not been assassinated that day, another gang would not have had the courage to kill Ziaur Rahman. Fortunately, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehena survived in 1975. Sheikh Hasina was attacked with grenades on August 21 with the intent to assassinate her. Its mastermind was [Gen Zia's elder son] Tarique Rahman. This BNP shouldn't talk much,” said Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister.
He said that the country embarked on the highway of development because Sheikh Hasina came to power.
Awami League Presidium Member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the conference. He called upon the leaders and workers to follow Sheikh Hasina's instructions to prevent the terrorist activities of the BNP.
Central leaders of the ruling party and its associate bodies attended the event, which was conducted by district unit General Secretary Mujibur Rahman and Office Secretary MA Manjur.
