Fakhrul: Government agencies trying to destabilize Naya Paltan

Government agencies are trying to destabilize Naya Paltan through sabotage, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged.

Mentioning that the government's conspiracy has not stopped, he said that the agencies of the government have embarked on various kinds of sabotage to destabilize Naya Paltan.

He made the remarks at an emergency press conference at the BNP central office in Dhaka's Naya Paltan on Sunday.

“Yesterday (Saturday), a cocktail explosion took place in front of our central office in Naya Paltan. After this explosion, the police are suddenly arresting our leaders and activists and taking them to the police station,” he added.

Fakhrul said that the police have blocked the BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's house with a check post barricade in the shape of a sand truck.

“This is another new level of oppression on our leader. I strongly condemn and protest against such despicable behaviour of the government,” he added.

Fakhrul demanded that the check post and barricade be removed from the BNP chairperson's house immediately.

He claimed that the Awami League government was constantly trying to kill a popular leader by imprisoning her in a false case and blocking all avenues of treatment.

He further said that by blocking her residence, threatening to send her to jail, the human rights of the former national leader Khaleda Zia were being grossly violated.

“Our two leaders were illegally picked up only to suppress the people's movement and to create terror,” he alleged.

On their way to Dhaka after the rally in Rajshahi on Saturday, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, president of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, and Vice President Nur Islam Nayan were picked up by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolititan Police (DMP) from Amin Bazar and taken to Dhaka's Darussalam police station.

There were no cases or complaints against them, he added.

“Police are conducting raids on bachelors' house, residential hotels and houses in the name of arresting militants. This attack by the police is mainly for the arrest, harassment and panic on BNP leaders and activists. I strongly condemn this heinous plot,” he added.

He said that the situation of 2013-15 was being repeated in this way with these mass arrests and vandalism.
