Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami, has enforced a nationwide dawn-to-dusk hartal for Wednesday demanding the unconditional release of its central president Delwar Hossain, reports Channel 24.
Earlier on Friday, the student front threatened to enforce a countrywide hartal on Sunday if their demands, which include the release of its central president, were not met.
Later on Saturday, they called off the strike considering inclement weather and some scheduled examinations.
Police arrested Shibir President Delwar from his sister’s house in the city’s Shyamoli on March 31. He was placed on a 14-day remand on April 1 for his alleged involvement in an explosion of crude hand-bombs on Mirpur Road in the capital on February 28.
