Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said the huge turnout at the Jessore rally had proved that the people of Bangladesh had faith and confidence in the Awami League government.
The veteran politician, who is also road transport and bridges minister, made the comment in a press release signed by Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua.
Quader also condemned and protested BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's “false, baseless and purposeful” comments.
In the statement, he said BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul were making “delirious” remarks as the people were not becoming involved in their anti-government movement.
Jessore's rally had once again proved that the people had confidence in the government of Bangabandhu's daughter, Sheikh Hasina, Quader said.
“But the BNP leaders are continuing to tell their usual lies for political gain by presenting fabricated information and creating confusion by spreading rumours.
“Desperate to seize power by any means, BNP leaders have opted for unethical politics and terror tactics. They are indulging in deep conspiracies against the country. On the other hand, they are making conspiracy for creating an unstable environment through spreading confusion and creating fear in the public mind and carrying out terrorist activities.”
The Awami League general secretary also said the BNP was holding meetings in different parts of the country without any fear, but at the same time it was also seeking sympathy from its foreign masters by bringing allegations that the government was hindering its rallies.
“As Bangladesh has a free democratic environment, BNP leaders are able to lie against the government in the name of a rally every day. It is because there is media and freedom of speech, which allows the BNP to carry out media politics.”
