The local administration has given permission to hold BNP's Faridpur divisional rally scheduled to be held on Saturday in the Komorpur Abdul Aziz Institute, 6km away from the city and adjacent to Dhaka-Khulna highway.
Although BNP wanted to hold their rally at Rajendra College field in Faridpur city, the administration rejected their proposal.
On Monday afternoon, central and district BNP leaders visited the Komorpur Abdul Aziz Institute outside Faridpur city after accepting the proposal of the administration.
Leaders of Faridpur district BNP unit alleged that the administration was implementing the decision of Awami League.
According to district BNP sources, on September 12, an application was submitted to administration for any one of Ambika Maidan, Janata Bank intersection and Faridpur Zila School grounds for the mass rally
Later, on September 16, the district BNP proposed the government Rajendra College ground with that application.
Dhaka TribuneLast Sunday, the central and district leaders of BNP met with the district commissioner and the superintendent of police and requested to grant the ground of Rajendra College as the rally ground.
However, both the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police rejected this proposal.
The administration pointed out that the ongoing HSC examination would be disrupted if the rally takes place in Rajendra College ground.
Besides, there is a possibility of creating an unwanted environment between BNP and other political parties, they added.
Later, the administration gave verbal permission to the Abdul Aziz Institute ground in Komorpur on Sunday for the mass gathering.
Faridpur District BNP Convener Syed Modarrech Ali Icha said: “In other places of the country where BNP asked to hold rallies, the administration gave permission for the rally. But in Faridpur there is an exception.”
He also said that the place proposed by administration is located next to Dhaka-Khulna highway.
“We fear that the highway will be blocked from November 10 due to mass gathering. Then, there will be traffic problems,” he added.
Central and district BNP leaders held exchange meetings in different upazilas of Faridpur to make the divisional rally a success. Apart from this, meetings are being held daily at the district BNP office.
