Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy has said that BNP's democracy is synonymous with a system of torture and repression on its opponents.
Sajeeb Wazed made this remark in a Facebook post from his verified account on Tuesday night.
“Among thousands of such grim incidents, I am sharing one in defence of my assertion,” he added.
Having formed the government in 2001, BNP and its key ally Jamaat set in motion its persecution strategy against Awami League leaders and activists. Even peaceful demonstrations were not spared. With direct patronage of that government, an outfit under the banner'Jatiyatabadi Baastuhara Dol' (Nationalist Party of Homeless), used to unleash violence targeting opponent rallies, said Joy.
Even law enforcers were deployed for hurling tear shells, he said.
Joy also said that this heartbreaking news surfaced in a Jonokontho report on March 29, 2002, documenting an incident of hurling tear shells in three phases on a peaceful demonstration of Awami League at Muktangon. That couldn't stop the speech of Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina, though! Police beat up the leaders and activists like a pack of maniacs to disperse the gathering.
A group of hired terrorists also teamed up with law enforcers to drive out the people of Awami League. These cadres were coordinated under the banner of Jatiyatabadi Baastuhara Dol by a lawmaker of the Hawa Bhaban syndicate. This outfit also worked as a career of drug business run by BNP-Jamaat godfathers, he said.
The recklessly hurled tear shells injured 20 leaders and activists of Awami League including Matia Chowdhury, Shegufta Yasmin, Maria, Lipi, Shikha, Helen, Mayor Hanif, and Abdus Sattar, he further added.
