Harunur Rashid, the BNP lawmaker from Chapainawabganj-3, yesterday warned that the party will play its game on Saturday – long before Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader plays his game on December 10.
He was referring to the recent statements made by Obaidul Quader ahead of the BNP's mass gathering in Dhaka on December 10.
Harunur Rashid, a joint secretary general of the BNP and also coordinator of the party's mass rally in Rangpur, said the biggest rally of all time will take place on October 29.
The BNP leader spoke as he inspected the Collector Eidgah ground, the venue for the rally, on Thursday.
As part of its move to continue the pace of its ongoing movement, the BNP on September 27 announced a program of a series of public rallies in 10 major cities.
The party launched its divisional rallies program in Chittagong and will conclude it through a rally in Dhaka on December 10.
He alleged that the government has miserably failed to run the country. He blamed the government for the soaring prices of commodities in the country.
He further said that the government has made several attempts to foil the BNP's divisional rallies and has failed each time.
Meanwhile, the Rangpur District Motor Owners' Association has called for a strike from Friday 6am to Saturday 6pm, demanding a ban on the plying of illegal vehicles, including three-wheelers, on the highway. The announcement was made through a press release issued by the association yesterday.
Bus, minibus, microbus and truck services will also be suspended on all routes of Rangpur district for these two days, said Mozammel Haque, president of the Rangpur District Motor Owners' Association.
Referring to similar strikes called by transport associations ahead of BNP rallies in different divisions in the past month, BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid said: “The people will thwart any attempt to foil BNP programs through transport strikes and through threatening party leaders.”
The BNP leader later inspected the stage erected ahead of the program and spoke to local leaders of the party.
