The opposition BNP has alleged that the ruling Awami League is trying to thwart the party’s divisional rally in Khulna but it will not succeed.
At a press conference held on Thursday, Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu criticized the two-day suspension of services announced by transport owners and workers from Friday. The BNP is scheduled to hold the rally in the city on Saturday.
On Tuesday night, Khulna Bus-Minibus Owners Association and Khulna Motor Workers Union jointly took the decision to suspend all types of bus services in the district, demanding that all improvised vehicles be declared banned on highways.
Dudu alleged that the transport strike had been categorically called to prevent party leaders from joining the scheduled rally.
He said that their mikes were snatched and broken at several points of the city while some workers were attacked. "None of the ill motives and efforts will work and the BNP leaders will swarm the rally ground in thousands.
“Police are conducting raids at residents of party activists, and there are efforts to prevent people from joining the program by suspending trawler movement on river ways,” Dudu claimed, while issuing a note of warning against the law enforcers.
The BNP has held its divisional rallies in Chittagong and Mymensingh, and plans to conclude the program in Dhaka city on December 10. The party hopes the country will be run by BNP chief Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman, both convicted in multiple cases.
