Reserved seat MP Sheikh Anne Rahman has died at a hospital in Bangkok. She was 62.
Sheikh Anne, who had been suffering from cancer, breathed her last around 1pm on Tuesday, said Goutam Narayan Roy Chowdhury, personal assistant to Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim.
She is survived by her husband, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, a cousin of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a son, a daughter, and a host of relatives.
Her body will be brought home on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her deep shock and sorrow at the death of Sheikh Anne Rahman.
In a condolence message, the prime minister said Anne Rahman was a child of the Awami political family.
“She was always enthusiastic about the development of her respective area,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul.
