A Dhaka court on Thursday framed charges against 51 BNP activists, including the party chairperson's Adviser Amanullah Aman in a case filed over vandalism and assault on police in 2017.
All of the accused in the case pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain read out the charges to them.
The court also rejected their discharge petitions filed by the defense counsel.
Later, the court fixed February 1, 2023 to record the deposition of witnesses in the case.
Aman Ullah Aman, BNP education affairs secretary Khairul Kabir Khokon, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, president of Dhaka south city unit of BNP and 48 others leaders and activists were present before the court.
According to the case statement, on October 10, 2017 a group of BNP leaders and activists led by Aman brought out a procession in protest over an arrest warrant issued against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in front of Dainik Bangla intersection in Dhaka.
They vandalized vehicles, assaulted policemen and prevented them from discharging their duties.
Sub-Inspector of Motijheel police station Md Shahidul Islam filed a case against Aman, Khokon, Sohel and others in this connection.
Meanwhile, Shafiqul Islam Akond, sub-inspector of Motijheel police station and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheets with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on 2019.
