BNP Standing Committee Member Rafiqul Islam Miah on Saturday said it is not Khaleda Zia rather it is Sheikh Hasina who has to face imprisonment for alleged corruption in her government.
“Why will the opposition leaders go to jail? Didn’t she pocket thousands of crores of taka from the country’s share market, Hallmark and Destiny? Didn’t she certify those involved in Padma Bridge graft as honest men?" he questioned.
All these happened during her government. So all the cases will be filed against the prime minister, he said addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday at a programme said if caretaker government system was revived both Khaleda and she herself had to land in jail.
Slamming the prime minister’s comments on the opposition leader, Rafiqul said: “None expects such indecent words from you. The way you attacked the opposition leader is indecent, false and out of norms.”
About the Anti-terrorism Act (amended 2013) the BNP leader said: “Amendment was brought in the act just to repress the opposition and difference of opinions. Police was empowered and the power of court was narrowed through the act.”
The senior leader of the party reiterated his resolve to restore caretaker government system to oversee the next general polls.
