Agitation if “negative strategies” in city polls

The main opposition BNP-organised demonstration rally ended peacefully at city’s Shurawardi Udyan Wednesday afternoon amid reiteration of demands including restoration of caretaker government and cancelation of arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman.

Speaking at the rally, the party leaders claimed that the government has failed completely to rule the country rather got engaged in corruption in every sectors.

BNP struggled to get permission to hold the rally as police was not allowing the party to organise the rally in front of its central office at city’s Naya Paltan.

On Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police permitted the main opposition to hold the rally at Suhrawardi Udyan. On Sunday, BNP filed an application to the police seeking permission to hold the rally in front of party’s Naya Paltan office.

Addressing the rally, BNP’s Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has threatened the government of forging a tough movement if the opposition-backed candidates are made defeated in the upcoming city corporation elections by adopting “negative strategies”.

The party leaders once again urged the government to cancel the arrest warrant issued against party’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman. They further demanded the government to withdraw all the cases filed against BNP leaders across the country.

Dhaka city unit BNP convener Sadek Hossain Khoka presided over the rally that was addressed, among others, by Moudud Ahmed, Abdul Moyeen Khan, ASM Hannan Shah and Zamir Uddin Sircar.
