EC closed 2 offices of Awami League mayoral candidate

Two election campaign offices of outgoing mayor and Awami League-supported mayoral candidate Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran were closed by the Election Commission in Sylhet City Corporation polls on Sunday.

Violating the electoral code of conduct, Kamran opened eight offices in the city whereas a candidate cannot run more than six offices, Assistant Returning Officer Rashedul Islam said.

An EC mobile team led by Executive Magistrate Mashiur Rahman on Sunday night ordered to shut down the offices in ward 6 and ward no 19, he added.

Earlier, the EC issued Kamran a warning notice as he started vote campaigns violating the electoral code of conduct.

Kamran, however, urged the EC to allow at least nine camp offices in 27 wards in the city. At a meeting organised by the commission on Tuesday, he said it was too hard to handle the election campaigns in all the wards with only six offices
