At least three cases and counter cases were lodged yesterday against 292 accused in connection with clashes between activists of AL lawmaker, Jatya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader and Uzirpur upazila chairman Tuesday afternoon.
The accused include the upazila chairman, BNP and JSD leaders and activists and son of a lawmaker.
On the other hand chairmen of different union parishads of the upazila at a meeting on Wednesday declared the AL lawmaker and his son persona non grata in the upazila for their alleged corruptions, immoral activities and role against the public interest of the upazila.
They also demanded withdrawal of cases against the UP chairman and innocent locals and warned that they go tough in case of ignoring their demands.
Sub-Inspector Humaun Kabir and acting officer-in-charge of Uzirpur police station AKM Ehsanullah acknowledged the fact and said the situation is now under control.
Denying giving details, police said Sub-Inspector Mohiuddin as complainant lodged a case against 15 named and 200 unnamed for injuring him and his colleague SI Swapan, blocking roads and creating obstacles against performing public duties.
Only JSD and BNP activists and supporters of UP chairman were accused and cadres of AL lawmaker were acquitted from the case, local sources said.
Uzirpur upazila Chairman and JSD leader Abul Kalam Azad as complainant lodged a case against AL lawmaker’s son Dr Reazul Islam Sumon, his cadre Arup and 25 others for attempt to murder and injure him by chasing and attacking.
Nasir Khan, president, Guthia union Shechhashebok League, and cadres of the AL lawmaker lodged a counter case against 50 accused including UP Chairman Badal and 10 others for attempting to murder the AL lawmaker, his son and their supporters and damaging vehicle. Police officials said they will investigate the case and take action accordingly.
Mentionable SM Zamal and Abdul Majid Shikdar Bachchu, president and secretary of upazila AL, earlier held a press conference against the corruption and irregularities of AL lawmaker.
Followers of AL lawmaker and Uzirpur upazila chairman were locked in a clash in the upazila Tuesday afternoon following a dispute over project approval and invitation in a programme.
The clash left at least 20 people, including journalists and police injured.
Agitated locals confined the lawmaker and his son to the upazila parishad for five hours. Later, they came out of the place in the evening with the help of police.
