State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam on Saturday said an arrest warrant has been issued against main opposition BNP’s senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman.
The warrant has also been served to Tarique’s Dhaka residence, he said while addressing a discussion at city’s Shilpakala Academy. However, the BNP chairperson’s eldest son was not present there, added the minister.
Tarique is now living in London ‘for treatment’. He had left the country in September 2008 after being released on bail. He is facing 14 graft charges.
“Although Tarique was not found at his home in Dhaka, government has traced his position. Action would be taken against him. If necessary, the state minister said, the government would seek help from the Interpol.
According to different reports, Tarique addressed a political programme in London where he alleged that the government has slaughtered scores of people during its drive to oust Hefazat activists from Shapla Chattar area earlier this month.
Dhaka Divisional unit of Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organised the programme marking the 114th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
