BNP chairperson and leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia Thursday said, restoration of caretaker government system to oversee the next general polls is the demand of the majority of the people of the country.
“Election under a non-partisan interim government is not just BNP and its 18-party alliances’ demand, but the plea of [90% people of the country]. We will compel the government to realise our demand of restoring of caretaker government system. We believe in democracy and that’s why we want the next elections under a non-partisan government,” she said.
She alleged that the country’s communal harmony has been destroyed during the Awami League-led grand alliance government.
“Awami League men launched attacks on the Buddhists at Ramu and Ukhia. The government is committing crimes and is trying to hide with another misdeed,” she said.
The government’s behaviour is autocratic, as they have majority in the parliament.
“The government has been imposing sensor in the media. Media were barred to publish misdeeds of the government,” she said.
Khaleda Zia made these allegations while Buddhist leaders came to her Gulshan office in the capital to exchange greetings on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.
She further added, “In the country, there are only examples of Awami League’s misrules and terrorism. People are waiting for them to step down. The government’s repression is increasing as it’s time is expiring in the office,” she said.
