Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said that the government would take stern action if the BNP tried to create chaos in the country in the name of movement, considering the safety and security of commoners.

"Along with the people, the Awami League will also give a harsh reply if BNP tries to create any anarchic situation in the name of a movement," he told reporters after a function of distribution clothes among the transgender people and iftar mahfil.

Bangladesh Hijra Kalyan Foundation, an organization of transgenders, organized the function at its office in the city's Bangabandhu Avenue.
The AL leader said that the BNP had been issuing such threats of movement for the last 13 and a half years.
“Everyone has the right to launch a movement in a democratic country,” he said. The government would also take tougher actions against the troublemakers, considering the security of the people, he added.
Foundation President Abida Sultana Mitu presided over the meeting.

Earlier, the minister addressed the 161st meeting of the Press Institute of Bangladesh's (PIB) Board of Directors at his Secretariat office.
