3 Hefazat leaders held in city

Plainclothes police arrested three Hefazat-e-Islam leaders from the city’s Mirpur area on Sunday in connection with the May 5 violence in the city, says UNB.

The arrestees are Kafrul thana unit Hefazat convener Moulana Abul Basar, joint convener Moulana Mizanur Rahman and another Hefazat leader Moulana Imran Madani, khatib of Lalbagh Shahi Mosque and principal of Jamia Arabia Khademul Islam Madrasha, Mirpur.

DMP deputy commissioner (Public Relations) Masudur Rahman said a team of DB police arrested the trio from different locations of Mirpur between 6pm to 10pm.

They were shown arrested in two cases filed with Motijheel Police Station over the violence took place on May 5 in the city.

DB sources said the three leaders were arrested on the basis of information provided by Hefazat-e-Islam secretary general Junaid Babunagri during remand at the DB headquarters.
