Quader: Pohela Boishakh celebration is non-communal

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has urged all democratic, patriotic and progressive forces to work unitedly for strengthening the continuous progress of the country.

"All the democratic, patriotic and progressive forces have to play a vital role for institutionalizing democracy...all the quarters must have to strengthen the continuous progress of the country which is being led by incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he said on Thursday.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the remarks while greeting the nation on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh 1429, the first day of the Bangla calendar, at a press conference from his official residence.

Terming Pohela Boishakh a universal cultural festival of Bangalees, he said that the non-communal spirit of Bangalees is depicted in this festival.

Ahead of the next general elections, Quader said: "The ruling Awami League has to take forward all the programmes for fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of the country… and this should be pledged nowadays."

Although Pohela Boishakh coincided with the month of fasting, people throughout the country were firm to celebrate the day while protecting the sanctity of the holy Ramadan, he added.

“We have to uphold such non-communal spirit of the great Liberation War by performing our individual religions and rituals," Quader said, adding: “Awami League is pledged-bound to continue its progress for fulfilling the dream of the mass people and ensure peace across the country."

He assured that the party would continue to spread the non-communal spirit in politics by upholding its Liberation War spirit.
