Quader: BNP is the father of distorting history

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said the BNP is the father of distortion of the country’s history as it continued a failed attempt to make the footnote of history, Ziaur Rahman, a hero.

Also the road transport and bridges minister, Quader made the remarks while speaking at a press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence.

“The BNP has resumed the heinous practice of history distortion,” he added.

The BNP leaders continue their ill-efforts to make its Chairperson Khaleda Zia the first female freedom fighter of the country and fugitive convict Tarique Rahman a child freedom fighter, he said.

That is why the country’s independence, sovereignty and history are not safe at the hands of the BNP, he said.

Responding to remarks by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Quader said that his allegations were “absolutely untrue and baseless”, and were nothing but a crazy delirium.

Claiming that the Awami League never distorted the history, the minister said that the BNP gets irritated as the AL has presented the real history before the nation.

He said the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under whose leadership the Bangalee nation's long-cherished independence was achieved, was banned during the BNP era.

The BNP banned the “Joy Bangla” slogan of the Liberation War and stopped broadcasting the historic March 7 speech on TV and radio, he alleged.

Quader said that attempts were made to erase the Bangabandhu’s name from all places – from media to textbooks.

He said that the BNP leaders may not know the universal truth that history takes its own course.

The new generation is now able to know the real history of the country, while the faces of those who distorted history are being exposed, Quader said.

“So, the BNP gets desperate, has started the old game and is practicing the undemocratic path. But the people are alert now,” he said.

He said that the country’s people will rebel against the BNP if it tries to distort the history of independence and destroy its values.

Noting that the people do not have confidence in the BNP, the road transport bridges minister said they have turned away from the party due to its negative politics.

He said that 50 years after freeing from the chain of subjugation; those who questioned about the achievements in the last 50 years did not bear the spirit of the independence in their hearts.
