“Do not try to push the country towards undemocratic path”: PM to Khaleda

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday urged the opposition leader Khaleda Zia not to make attempts which would push the country towards an undemocratic destination.

“Please, take the democratic path by shunning destructive activities. Do not try to push the country towards an undemocratic path. If you [Khaleda] bring crocodiles by digging a canal, the reptile will bite you only,” Hasina said while addressing the extended meeting of the ruling Awami League (AL) at her official residence Ganabhaban in the capital.

The premier once again urged BNP chairperson Khaleda to join the upcoming session of parliament. “Whatever you want to say, you can say it in parliament. Problems will be resolved through discussions,” Hasina said.

Hasina categorically said that the next national elections would be held in the way polls are held in other democratic countries across the globe.

“Issuing an ultimatum, you [Khaleda]said that I will not find any path to flee from the scene. Where did you get such courage? Where is your actual strength?” the premier asked referring to Khaleda’s 48-hour ultimatum set before the government earlier.

Hasina also called upon the countrymen to find out the source of opposition leaders political strength.
