Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said that the BNP is afraid of the elections as they have become isolated from the people because of "terror-based" and "arson" politics.
“Besides, Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman have been convicted in cases. The BNP leaders are not interested in the elections as their leaders cannot participate anymore,” he said while speaking at an extended meeting of the Thakurgaon district unit Awami League on Wednesday afternoon.
He observed that BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi only speak “nonsense” against the Awami League all day long.

“Rizvi sits in the party’s Naya Paltan office only to eat and relax. That is why they do not know anything about the state of the country,” the minister added.
Addressing Mirza Fakhrul’s allegation against price hike, he said that the Russia-Ukraine situation had pushed up the prices of many commodities all over the world.
“The prices of some products have also gone up in Bangladesh. Our government is working to control the prices of commodities,” Hasan assured.
He also vowed to take action against the traders who would try to make profits by raising the prices of products.
