BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has held a one-on-one meeting with Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna as part of its initiative to bring in different parties under an umbrella to wage an anti-government movement.
The meeting began at around 6:20pm on Friday at the senior BNP leader’s residence in Dhaka, reports Bangla Tribune.
The BNP top brass has been campaigning to drum up support for waging an anti-government unity for the last few months.
According to sources, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman had given the party a ten-day deadline to finish the dialogues with different political parties in this regard, of which only five days are left.
Sources at Nagorik Oikya told Bangla Tribune that Manna went to Mosharraf’s residence on invitation. If the two sides agree on the next course of action, then a BNP delegation will visit Nagorik Oikya office for further talks, they said.
On Thursday, Manna at a program said: "If the government cannot reduce commodity prices, it should quit. This government, under the watch of which people are dying due to shortage of food, is unnecessary."
On January 3, BNP in its Standing Committee meeting decided to hold talks with political parties on the country’s latest political situation ahead of the next general elections.
