Bahauddin Nasim: Mocking polls like political program for BNP

Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim has said mocking the election has become like a political program for BNP.

He made the remark during a press conference held over the by-polls of Dhaka 18 and Sirajganj 1 constituencies at the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi on Tuesday.

Nasim said that taking part in polls and calling them questionable has now become a game for BNP.

“BNP picked a candidate who is an outsider to Dhaka 18 constituency. Their activists didn’t accept this decision. They hurled brickbats at BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s house in Dhaka for nominating this candidate,” added Nasim.

Urging voters to exercise their voting rights in a festive mood on November 12, Nasim said he hoped voters would go to voting centres in large numbers.

Mentioning that the tide has turned in favour of the Awami League candidate for the Dhaka 18 by-polls, Nasim said: “Our nominated candidate is a permanent resident of Uttara. He is a thoroughly tested political figure and a popular man.

“On the other hand, the BNP nominated candidate is not a local of the constituency. There are reports that he is involved in terrorist activities in Dhaka city,” the Awami League leader added.

Among others, Awami League Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Liberation War Affairs secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan, Central Executive Committee member Marufa Akhter Popy and Shahabuddin Faraji were also present at the press conference.
