Sheikh Hasina to sit with party top brass Wednesday

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to meet with the party’s presidium members in person on Wednesday morning, about six months after she last did so.

This will be the first time the AL president formally sits with the party top brass since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in Bangladesh.

The last presidium meeting of ruling party was held at March 15. Since that meeting, presidium members Mohammad Nasim and Sahara Khatun have been lost to Covid-19 or other complications.

Regarding the meeting, Awami League presidium member Faruk Khan on Sunday told Dhaka Tribune: “We, the presidium members, got invitations to attend a meeting at Ganabhaban at 10 am on September 16.”

A top leader of the party said: “From mid-March, the prime minister and AL president has been extremely busy with combating Covid-19. All these months, the premier has used a virtual office or a limited office with the ministers concerned and top bureaucrats.

“There were no formal political movements or meetings, except some video conferences. So, this closed-door presidium meeting will be important as the ruling party has a lot of pending agendas,” the party leader added on Sunday evening.
