Ekramul to PM: Please abolish the ‘Mithu Syndicate’ from the health sector

Ruling party MP of Noakhali-4 constituency, Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, has blamed the “Mithu Syndicate” for the mismanagement of the health sector and urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to abolish this syndicate.

Ekramul, also a member of the parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said this to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday, he talked about the “Mithu Syndicate” on a Facebook Live video from his verified account.

Motazzerul Islam Mithu is a well-known contractor in the health sector and he is reportedly running a syndicate nicknamed “Mithu Syndicate” in the health sector of Bangladesh.

Noakhali district Awami League General Secretary Ekramul said Covid-19 testing in Noakhali, Feni, and Laxmipur districts is not running properly due to the lack of test kits. So people from those three districts are suffering now.

“I have come to know that three or four business companies already brought around 10 lakh test kits but they cannot supply the kits to the health ministry due to the Mithu Syndicate. Our health sector will never be normal until the Mithu syndicate is abolished,” Ekramul said.

The lawmaker added: “I will request our honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take an initiative to put an end to the “Mithu Syndicate” since she abolished the casino syndicate from the country within two or three days.”

“The Mithu Syndicate has brought the whole health ministry under their control. That’s why people are not getting proper health care,” he added.

Ekramul also said the country's health sector has turned into a strange and ridiculous sector.
