AL candidate Mokbul elected chairman of Bogra Zila Parihsad

Awami League-backed chairman candidate Dr Mokbul Hossain has unofficially won the Bogra Zila Parishad election. Mokbul, the president of Bogra district unit Awami League, has bagged 1,334 votes while his nearest contestant Solaiman Ali Master, an independent candidate, pulled 132 votes. Jatiya Party candidate Aminul Islam Pintu received 82 votes, according to Assistant Returning Officer Asiya Khatun. A total of 1,553 among 1,602 electors cast their votes. The voting began at 9am in 15 polling centres and continued till 2pm on Thursday. Meanwhile, independent candidate Solaiman Ali Master and Jatiya Party candidate Aminul Islam Pintu held a press conference at Bogra Press Club around 1am to announce they boycotted the election, bringing charges of vote snatching against the followers of winner Dr Mokbul Hossain. Bogra District Election Officer Dewan Mohammad Sarwar Jahan denied the allegation saying that no untoward incident or vote rigging had taken place during the election. He also added that he was not informed about the boycott of election by the two candidates.
