Ganosamhati Andolan has urged the government to strictly enforce lockdown rules to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.
The platform held an online press conference on the current coronavirus situation in the country on Tuesday.
The leaders of the platform asked the government to strictly enforce the lockdown amid news of the authorities relaxing the lockdown rules and allowing markets to be opened.
The speakers at the conference said this decision might prove fatal as health experts had been warning that the coronavirus situation could peak in the country in the next couple of weeks.
Zonayed Saki, chief coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan, was present at the online press conference while Abul Hasan Rubel read out the written statement of the organisation.
They asked the government to provide food and cash to the low wage earners in the country.
They also demanded that the government ensure that garment factory workers, day labourers, and transport workers received their wages in time and no one was laid off.
The speakers also pointed out that farmers should be allowed to transport their produce while maintaining health regulations in order to sustain the supply chain in the country.
Pointing out the importance of information during this crisis, Ganosamhati Andolan members asked the government to ensure that all information on the coronavirus was publicised.
They asked the government to exempt students from tuition fees and hostel fees during the crisis.
The Ganosamhati Andolan leaders also urged the government to take the move of bringing about the unity of all political parties in the country during the present crisis and find ways of combating the virus together.
The speakers dwelt on some long term suggestions that included sectors like garments, agriculture, research and health.
Among others, Taslima Akhtar, Abdur Rashid Nilu, Hasan Maruf Rubel, and Julhasnaine Babu were present online.
