Jatiya Gonotantrik Party (Jagpa) chief Shafiul Alam Prodhan has died. He was 67.
The former Chhatra League leader died in sleep at his Asadgate residence early Sunday, party’s Secretary General Golam Mostofa Bhuiyan told the Dhaka Tribune in the morning.
He had been suffering from cancer since long.
Jagpa is part of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
He started his political career with Bangladesh Chhatra League and later became general secretary of its central committee.
Prodhan and four others were sentenced to life-term imprisonment in 1978, four years after the sensational seven-murder at Mohsin Hall of Dhaka University.
But the then president Ziaur Rahman scrapped his sentence.
He later formed Jagpa, which sided with the BNP.
