The construction of the much-hyped Padma Bridge is without question a matter of prestige for the incumbent Awami League government, which has been braving many an adverse situation of late.
With the ongoing efforts of the authorities concerned, about 3.3 kilometers of the bridge became visible following the installation of its 22nd span on Thursday.
The very next day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina found the opportunity to film the bridge of dreams from a helicopter on her way to Dhaka from Tungipara in Gopalganj.
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak uploaded such a video of the prime minister on his Facebook wall on Friday night.
In the video, the premier is seen filming the bridge through the window of the helicopter with much eagerness, not to say evident happiness.
A total of 22 superstructures of the bridge, out of 41, have been installed in phases so far.
According to Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, all the spans of the Padma Bridge will be installed by July 2020.
He also said the bridge would be opened to traffic by 2021.
Once in operation, the Padma Bridge, Bangladesh's largest infrastructure project till date, will connect 21 southern districts with the capital and boost the GDP (gross domestic product) by 1%.
