Ruling party Awami League has fixed a target to complete its grassroots level council including districts, thanas, unions and ward units.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader came up with this instruction in a secretariat meeting of Awami League's Central Working Committee (ALCWC) on Sunday morning at the party’s president's Dhanmondi office.
However, it was the first meeting of the secretariat body of ALCWC after the national council on 20 and 21 December. Most of the secretaries and deputy secretaries of the party were present in the meeting. Awami League General Secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader presided over the meeting.
According to party sources, Awami League issued a letter to all of its district presidents and secretaries on January 2 to complete the grassroots council by March 6.
Awami League has completed 29 district councils before its triennial national council. The party has 68 organizational district units across the country divided into 8 divisions, each division is operated by an individual organizing secretary.
After the meeting Obaidul Quader told in a press briefing: "We are going to complete our grassroots council before the starting of Mujib Year, which is scheduled to be celebrated on 17 March."
Obaidul Quader also said that, ALCWC and Central Advisory committee members will go to Tungipara of Gopalganj together on 18 January to place floral homage on the grave of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, then a joint meeting of ALCWC and advisory committee will be held there.
Quader to go to Singapore for health check up
Awami League leaders who were present in the meeting seeking anonymity told Dhaka Tribune that, Awami League General Secretary Quader will be going to Singapore for his medical checkup, that's the reason the general secretary has adjourned the secretariat meeting on Sunday and it is scheduled to restart again on 17 January.
However, Obaidul Quader, did not officially handover the charge to the party's first Joint General Secretary Mahbubul ALam Hanif to operate the party's official secretariat duties in absence of him, but Quader hinted that Hanif will look after party matters unofficially when he will be in Singapore.
