BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that the government is interfering in all sectors including the judiciary, suggesting that a movement against the government was necessary to re-establish citizens' rights.
He also lambasted Law Minister Anisul Huq for his remark on Wednesday, when the minister said that no chief justice in any country of the world talked so much in public as Chief Justice Surendra Kuman Sinha did.
“The government’s ministers react like this when the chief justice speaks truths,” the top BNP leader said.
He made the comments while making his address as the chief guest at a biennial council of the district unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in Thakurgaon on Saturday.
JCD Central President Rajib Ahsan inaugurated the programme presided over by the unit’s President Rashed Alam Labu.
Fakhrul alleged: “The government is interfering in every institution. It is making the people suffer by implicating them in false militancy cases. The people have no right to speak.
“There is no alternative but to hold a movement to topple the government; or else the people will not get their rights back.”
Thakurgaon Municipality Mayor Mirza Faisal Amin and district BNP convener Taimur Rahman were present at the council, among others.
