Ershad, 89-years-old, passed away on Sunday due to complications from old age at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.

The Jatiya Party chief, also the leader of the opposition in Parliament, was admitted to the CMH on June 22 in a critical condition.

After nine days on life support, the former president passed away around 8am on Sunday at the intensive care unit of the facility, as his organs gradually stopped functioning, said the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR).
