BNP-backed Comilla city mayor aspirant Monirul Haque Sakku held up publicly his vote for “sheaf of paddy” symbol violating the electoral code of conduct.
The voting in Comilla City Corporation elections began in the morning amid tight security.
Sakku, the immediate-past mayor, went to Hochchha Mia High School around 9:15am.
After taking the ballot paper from a polling official, he cast his vote and showed the ballot to reporters instead of putting it into the ballot box maintaining confidentiality.

His competitor Awami League-backed candidate Anjum Sultana Sima cast her vote at Comilla Modern Primary School centre around 9am.
Earlier, ruling Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman of Narayanganj flashed his ballot during the Narayanganj City Corporation polls in December last year.
As per the electoral rule, a voter must cast his/her vote secretly inside the secret room. Voting in public is a punishable offence.
