BNP: Govt conspiring to push Khaleda to death

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said the government is conspiring to push the seriously ill BNP Chairperson, Khaleda Zia, to death by depriving her of medical treatment in jail.

"The medical board examined our chairperson on Sunday after nearly three and a half months following a court order. The board was astonished to see that she was not being given any treatment and there had been no health checkups, including blood and sugar tests, or any x-rays for a long period," he said.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Naya Paltan headquarters, the leader further said: "The government is pushing our leader to death by not providing medical treatment and presenting her before the court in a wheelchair as part of its conspiracy."

Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia in no way deserves such treatment from the government.

He demanded from the government that Khaleda be freed from jail without any delay, so she may receive proper medical attention.

The BNP leader also said the government will have to shoulder all the responsibility if this neglect results in irreversible damage.

He also said their party is ready to bear all the additional expenditures for Khaleda's treatment.
