BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said BNP is unaware of newly elected Gono Forum MPs deciding to take their oath of office.
He made the statement at a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan head office, around 11:30am, on Monday.
The senior BNP leader said: “I do not know whether they have decided to take the oath. As far as I know, the Oikya Front alliance, along with BNP, will come to a decision with the consensus of all parties.
He believes someone is circulating propaganda regarding this issue.
Rizvi furthered: “How can they take oath without the party’s decision? All of us are united. Any further activities will be done as per everyone’s decision in the party. I believe the reason behind not taking the oath, earlier, is still valid.”
Responding to a query about filing cases with the election tribunal, he said: “The candidates will file cases on their own; I do not know whether anyone has filed a case yet.”
Regarding the invitation for tea at Ganabhaban, Rizvi said: "I cannot say anything about this on my own. The decision will be made by the senior leaders of the party. You will know about it in time.”
In a written statement, Rizvi stated: “The general public was unable to cast their votes on December 30, however the ballot boxes were filled up on the night of December 29. No matter what the government calls itself after the election, it is still an illegal government.”
He wrote: “Awami League said their candidates won by a landslide with millions of votes, while the actual voters are shocked to hear this, as they lost their right to vote.”
The BNP has leader said: “The government is delaying bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia under many pretexts as there are no legal grounds to stay her bail.”
BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, the party chairperson's Adviser, Ataur Rahman Dhali, Co-Organizing Secretary Abdus Salam Azad, BNP Co-Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu, and many others were present at the press conference.
