Law enforcementagencies' 'arrest business' targeting the opposition, especially BNP, has now become a regular practice.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the allegation in a statement, issued on Wednesday protesting and condemning the arrest of BNP National Executive Committee member Sheikh Mohammad Shamim.
Fakhrul said: "The evil tricks to arrest and harass opposition activists have now taken a serious turn. The Awami League government has continued inexpressible repression on opposition leaders and activists after usurping power by force through snatching people's voting rights."
"A reign of terror has been established in the country through repression of leaders and activists of BNP and other opposition parties. They are being arrested in false cases. The arrest business by law enforcers has now become an order of the day," he added.
Fakhrul alleged that BNP leaders and workers are going through a miserable time as the fear of being arrested in 'fabricated' cases haunts them on a regular basis.
The BNP secretary general said BNP leader Sheikh Mohammad Shamim was subjected tothe government's political vengeance.
Mirza Fakhrul demanded immediate release of the BNP leader.
