Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said BNP leaders are demanding dialogue to cover their failure in the recently held 11th parliamentary election.
He made the remark at a discussion held on Saturday to mark Bangabandhu’s homecoming day, organized by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jot at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
He further said: “How can BNP expect to win the polls after selling their nomination in an auction? I would recommend some of the BNP leaders to get treatment for their mental health.
“BNP hired Dr Kamal Hossain to represent them in the election. But he is now trying to cover up his and the BNP-led alliance’s failure in the general polls by setting up a dialogue.”
Directing his comments towards senior BNP leaders, the minister said: “You should replace your party leadership, and figure out the true reason behind your election defeat. Only then you can reach the people of the country.”
Highlighting Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s contribution in the 1971 Liberation War, Hasan Mahmud added: “The independence of Bangladesh was fully realized with the homecoming of Bangabandhu.”
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jot founding General Secretary Sarah Begum Kobori presided over the event, while Vice President Rokeya Prachy and Awami League Dhaka south city unit General Secretary Shah-e Alam Murad addressed the program among many others.
