BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the Election Commission withdrew a requirement for election candidates to submit income tax returns—in order to hide the looting done by ruling party leaders.
The senior politician remarked this at a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan office on Sunday.
“The Anti-Corruption Commission is totally silent about this issue, but very active against members of the opposition party,” he added.
“Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said the candidates will not have to submit income tax returns from now on. Before, it was mandatory for all candidates to provide income tax returns, but that has been changed. Only those who have a Tax Identification Number (TIN) will provide returns to the Election Commission, while those who do not have one do not need to,” he added.
