Dr Kamal Hossain led-Jatiya Oikya Front will unveil its decision on joining or boycotting the 11th general election on Sunday.
Kamal will announce the decision at a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka at 1pm, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Saturday night, reports UNB.
Talking to reporters at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office after a meeting of the Oikya Front top brass, Fakhrul said: "BNP Standing Committee and 20-Party Alliance leaders had meetings before the Oikya Front's one to decide about participating in the election.
“After a long discussion, we have taken a decision that Jatiya Oikya Front leader Dr Kamal Hossain will inform the nation about our decision through the press briefing."
Earlier, the BNP Standing Committee members and leaders 20-Party Alliance leaders held separate meetings at the same venue.
After the meeting of the 20-Party Alliance, Liberal Democratic Party President Oli Ahmed said that their alliance would come up with its final decision on joining the general polls within a day or two.
Top leaders of the coalition had joined the hour-long meeting that began around 6:15pm.
After the meeting, top Oikya Front leaders had sat with the senior BNP leaders.
However, Dr Kamal could not join the meeting due to his illness.
On Thursday evening, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in a televised address to the nation announced that the next general election will be held on December 23.
The last date for submitting nomination papers is November 19, the date for scrutinising the papers is November 22, and the last date to withdraw candidacy is November 29.
