Dr Kamal writes to PM for another dialogue

Eminent jurist and chief of the newly formed Jatiya Oikya Front, Dr Kamal Hossain has written to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina seeking another dialogue saying that Oikya Front is interested in discussing constitutional and legal affairs relating to the upcoming election.

In this regard, leaders of Jatiya Oikya Front delivered a letter to the Awami League president’s political office in Dhanmondi, Dhaka; for the dialogue with the president of the ruling party, on Sunday.

The Jatiya Oikya Front delegation was comprised of Gono Forum’s joint-general secretary AOM Shafiq Ullah, presidium member Zoglul Haider Afrid, and organizing Secretary Mostuq Ahmed.

Office Assistants Masudur Rahman and Mohammad Alauddin received the letter on behalf of Sheikh Hasina around 12pm.

In the letter, Kamal Hossain thanked the prime minister for holding a dialogue with Oikya Front leaders and requested to arrange another dialogue as soon as possible.

AOM Shafiq Ullah told reporters that the dialogue was not finished on Thursday, and that is why they are urging Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for another dialogue.

“This time we will discuss constitutional and legal issues about the upcoming election and experts of these two sectors will attend the dialogue,” Shafiq Ullah said.

On Thursday, politicians from the Awami League-led 14-party alliance and the Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Front met to resolve the present political crisis and pave a way to ensure a peaceful parliamentary election.

The dialogue started at 7pm at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Ganabhaban. There present were 23 leaders from Awami League and the 14-party alliance, led by Sheikh Hasina; and 20 leaders from Jatiya Oikya Front.

Dr Kamal Hossain, on Friday, had expressed his satisfaction with the recently-held dialogue but also claimed that they did not get a specific solution from the dialogue.

“The dialogue was fruitful and the prime minister assured us that we can meet for a dialogue again,” he said after the much-anticipated dialogue.

However, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that he and his party were not satisfied by the dialogue.

Dr Kamal Hossain also wrote a letter on behalf of Jatiya Oikya Front to the Election Commission requesting not to announce the election schedule before the dialogues between Jatiya Oikya Front and ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance are complete.
