Major opposition party BNP has outlined week-long programs to observe National Revolution and Solidarity Day, marking the civil-military uprising on November 7, 1975.
BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced their plan at a BNP meeting, around 11am, at their Naya Paltan central office in Dhaka on Saturday.
Later, Rizvi announced the program to the media at a press briefing on Saturday noon.
BNP will begin its program hoisting party flags at its offices across Bangladesh on November 7. BNP leaders will place wreaths and offer sura fateha at the grave of party founder and late president Ziaur Rahman, around 10am, on the day.
On November 8, it will hold a discussion around 2pm at the Institute of Engineers Bangladesh.
Furthermore, special posters will be displayed and publications will be released on November 7, and BNP, along with its wings and associate bodies will hold discussions and other programs.
Also, the wings and associate organizations will hold a photography exhibition, cultural programs, and essay competitions to mark the day.
On November 7, 1975, amid political chaos, soldiers and civilians jointly freed the then chief of army staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment—paving the way for Zia’s rise to power.
