BNP: More than 1,500 party leaders, activists facing false cases

The BNP has claimed that seven cases have been filed against more than 1,500 of the party’s leaders and activists in the past four-five days.

Senior BNP leaders, including Law Affairs Secretary advocate Sanaullah Mia, has faced such cases filed in several police stations, such as Khilgaon and Rampura, in Dhaka.

The BNP made the claim in a press release issued by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, on Sunday.

The release also stated that false cases have been filed against 40 BNP leaders and activists in the Patharghata area of Barguna—and another 1,600 party members are facing different cases across the country.

Claiming that a feeling of dread has engulfed the country, BNP’s press release alleges that the ruling party Awami League is using underhanded tactics, and the judiciary, to oppress its political opposition.

The BNP also alleged that the party’s acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman was accused in the 21 August Grenade attack case, due to a political vendetta.

The press release also hurled allegations that the ruling party forced the former chief justice SK Sinha to leave the country, so that it can consolidate its power and establish control over the judiciary.

The press release ended with accusations that the Awami League implemented the Digital Security Act 2018 to suppress freedom of press.
