Awami League has nominated Suranjit Sengupta’s wife Jaya Sengupta for the Sunamganj-2 constituency (Dirai-Shalla) by-election.
The party’s nomination board made the decision in a meeting held at Ganabhaban, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence, Sunday evening.
The seat fell vacant after the death of veteran politician Suranjit on February 4.
The nomination board also decided to nominate Anjum Sultana to represent the party in the Comilla City Corporation election and Abdul Matin Bhuiyan for the by-election of Narshingdi district council, said a press release.
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
The Sunamganj 2 constituency by-election will be held on March 30. Aspirants will have to file nominations within March 2, which will be scrutinised on March 5.
March 13 is the last day to withdraw nominations.
