Suranjit’s wife to contest Sunamganj-2 by-polls

Late politician Suranjit Sengupta's wife Jaya Sengupta has collected Awami League's nomination paper to vie in the by-election to Sunamganj-2 (Dirai-Shalla) constituency. The constituency seat fell vacant after Suranjit’s death on February 5. Soumen Sengupta, Suranjit’s son, collected the form on behalf of her mother from Awami League’s party president’s office in Dhanmondi on Friday afternoon, deputy office secretary Biplab Barua said. Three other aspirants have also collected their nomination forms on the same day. They are Sunamganj AL president Motiur Rahman, Shamsul Haque Chowdhury and advocate Shamsul Islam. The deadline for nomination submission is March 2 and by-election is scheduled to be held on March 30.
