Obaidul Quader rules out possibility of holding formal dialogue with BNP

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has ruled out the possibility of holding a formal dialogue with BNP ahead of the next general elections.

“Only three months left before the election schedule is announced. So, there is no need to hold any dialogue with any political party centring the parliamentary polls,” he told reporters after visiting the progress of the metro rail project construction work in front of IDB Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Friday.

He, however, said that discussions with the leaders of any political party might take place over mobile phones to maintain working relations, reports BSS.

Many problems could be solved if good relations existed among the politicians, he said.

Regarding the possible expansion of the grand alliance, Obaidul said: “Our alliance might be expanded. There are many political parties who want to join with us.

“There are also many parties who want to take part in the polls by forming separate alliances.”

He said political polarization was natural ahead of national polls. “But we need to wait and see what happens, and I think it will be clear within next October,” added Obaidul, also the road transport and bridges minister.

About the Barapukuria coal scandal, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had already given directives to take stern actions against those who were involved in the scam.
