Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader made an unscheduled visit to the office of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Tuesday morning to discuss the political situation of the country.
The road transport and bridges minister made the visit to the CPB office, located in Dhaka's Purana Paltan area, around 11am, where he met with CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim and General Secretary Mohammad Shah Alam, sources said.
During the visit, Obaidul discussed the present political situation, quota reform movement, the upcoming parliamentary election, and a possible political alliance with the top CPB leaders, sources in both the parties told the Dhaka Tribune.

CPB recently formed an alliance named the Left Democratic Alliance with the Socialist Party of Bangladesh and six other left-wing parties.
CPB and Awami League sources said the Awami League is reportedly trying to bring the CPB and its alliance to participate in the upcoming election, and Obaidul's visit was a part of that agenda.
When contacted, CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim said Obaidul's visit was a courtesy call.
Earlier in 2014, the Awami League tried to persuade the CPB to join the ruling 14-party alliance and take part in the election, but the CPB boycotted the 2014 national polls.
