A delegation of the ruling party Awami League held a meeting with US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat at her residence in Dhaka Monday night.
The ruling party delegation, led by Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, discussed issues such as Bangladesh’s current political landscape, regional politics and the Rohingya crisis with the US ambassador.
Several sources present at the meeting revealed that the upcoming city corporation polls in Gazipur and Khulna were also discussed.
A number of Awami League leaders however stated that the meeting was just a courtesy dinner at Bernicat’s home.
Members of the delegation including Advisory Council member former ambassador Mohammad Jamir, Presidium members Abdur Razzak and Faruk Khan and senior officials from the US embassy were also present at the meeting.
An insider on conditions of anonymity said: “The US ambassador has expressed satisfaction over the existing environment preceding the city corporation polls. Bernicat told us that she spoke to the candidates during her visit to Gazipur.”
