Rizvi: Govt staged drama by sending Khaleda to BSMMU

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday alleged that the government staged a drama by “forcibly” sending their party chief Khaleda Zia to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on the pretext of a health check-up. “Our leader was not given any treatment. She was only subjected to harassment. The government staged a drama only to cause her pain, both mentally and physically,” he told a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the afternoon. The top BNP leader also alleged that Khaleda was brought to the hospital hurriedly without allowing her to get ready properly.  “Some seven to eight officials and jail guards repeatedly asked her to get ready and they put pressure on her to go to the hospital,” he was quoted by UNB as saying. “We strongly condemn such behavior with our leader, Khaleda Zia.” Earlier in the day, BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed told reporters at the BSMMU that they did not have confidence in treatment arranged by the government for Khaleda. He demanded the government immediately release their party chief so she can receive proper treatment. On Friday, after visiting Khaleda in jail, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters that her physical condition was not good and she needs treatment. The party’s second-in-command demanded the government immediately allow Khaleda’s personal physicians to examine her health and provide her with necessary treatment. The 73-year old former prime minister, who has been in jail for the last two months, suddenly fell sick on March 29.
