Dismissing BNP’s concerns about the polls-time government, he said: “I want to say it clearly that the election-time government will run in the same way as that of developed democratic nations.”
Obaidul Quader, also the Road, Transport and Bridges Minister, made the remark while speaking at the inauguration of a bus service at Sayedabad bus terminal on Friday afternoon.
“The election-time government will continue to work as per the constitution,” he added.
Earlier, at a Jubo League event around noon, Obaidul said that BNP had become reckless due to frustration over the failure of their movement against the government and mistakes in the election.
“BNP is a reckless political party and, like a reckless driver, I suspect they can cause an accident at any time,” he said, at the inaugural ceremony of a library and research centre initiated by Dhaka City South Jubo league at the capital's Kakrail.
In addition, Obaidul announced at the event that programmes on March 7, 17 and 26 would be organised indoors in order to reduce public suffering.
The programmes referred to are the celebrations of the historic speech delivered by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 7 of 1971, the birthday of the founding father on March 17 and Independence Day on March 26.
He said: “We will hold the programmes indoors as we have declared that we will not hold programmes on the streets which obstruct movement of traffic and causes public suffering.
“We have to practice politics while keeping the people’s welfare in mind.”
The minister also said that work had begun on restructuring politics in consideration of the best interests of the people, as per directions from the prime minister.
Furthermore, the AL general secretary expressed his appreciation for the Jubo League initiative to launch Jubojagaran Library and research centre, saying that "it made him very happy".
Addressing the party activists, he said: “one needs to be capable to go up in the world. For that, you need to study and develop reading habits. There is no alternative to study in politics.”
